Minutes of PBC Beekeepers Association Meeting
Date: May 6, 2011
Called to order 7:05 PM
30 members, 13 visitors

April Minutes approved.

Presentation:
Kristi Moyer, Facilities and Land Manager at Pine Jog Environmental Education Center
Gave a presentation on how to plant a prairie.
Information included:
There are both wet and dry prairies. Native plants to be provided and posted on the assoc. web site.
Sites with information included: www.fleppc.org/ check for plants that are not invasive
http:floridawildflower.com/pages/Bulk-seeds-available (Where to purchase bulk wildflower seeds)
Local native nurseries include: Meadow Beauty, Mesozoic Native, and Indian Trails

Treasurer Report: Balance of $10,243.94

Logo: Still in progress. Ideas might need "massaging" subject to approval of artist.

Pine Jog Environmental Center: Nuc is exploding. Observation hive also doing well.

Woodworking Workshop: Jim agreed to manage. Will continue details at next meeting.

July Meeting: Honey Tasting-Members to bring honey for sampling to coordinate with presentation of, "Sleeping your way to better health with honey".

August Meeting: Dr. Jaime Ellis, Univ. of Fl. Hive beetles. Members to share tasting treats from the hive.

Education Outreach:
Completed Ann Norton Sculpture Garden, WPB-April 18-19
Daggerwing Nature Park, Boca Raton-April 23
New Horizons Elem. School Career Day, Wellington-April 29
Grassy Waters Elem. School Career Day, WPB- (tentative volunteers Roger Corbin and John Buzz) May 13

New Assoc. Website: Presentation of both old and newly designed website.
Suggestions:
PBC Assoc. should acknowledge relationship Univ. of FL IFAS Extension
Master Beekeeper Program link with Univ. of Fl.
Incorporate You-tube videos
34 members voted in favor of the new website with no dissenting votes.
New website approved: Michelle Peterson 1st, Bill Bertrand 2nd.

Basics for Beginners: Len will host in his bee yard tentatively for June 4th. Those interested can sign-up in person with paper sign-up or through e-mail.
Raffle for Solar Wax Melter: Tickets were $5. As a fund raiser. Winner-Bill Bertrans

Old Honey jars to be recycled: Ruth Haggerty donated old honey jars to anyone interested.
