Lost 50% of my Bees

Leaving for Texas next week... I figured I do an inspection before I leave... SWARM????

Had a very interesting scenario happen here today. I have two hives, one was populated with package bees, a second Hive was populated via a NUC from a local supplier. Both hives are at about 50% capacity.... no sign of swarming. I ended up with an empty NUC which I just left on one of my stands.  This morning at about 10:00 am I noticed it was filled with thousands of bees. Including a queen. I said wow.... free bees. I gently smoked and place in two frames in the NUC with Wax…See More

New Bee KeeperPackage Bees arrived about three weeks agoAll going very well... 2 pounds of bees have now taken up about 3.5 of the 8 frames.... looks great. However, opening up hive yesterday I noticed bees now also occupying the inner wall of the Brood chamber (Build up Comb on the inner wall of the box).  Is this normal?See More

Frames & Foundations

Just starting my third week with Package Bees.  After a few "hiccups" all seems to be going well.  I have an eight frame Langstroth hive and I'm playing with different types of foundationsI have a few (wood) frames with:a) Yellow wax coated foundations (bees taking well to that)b) Foundationless frames with popsicle sticks at the top and two rows of fishline (I never have these at the end or two next to each otherc) a pure wax foundationDoes the club recommend one over the other, or is there…See More
