Mold in the hive

Just want to check with FL beekeepers, because the info I am finding pertains to northern beehive that overwinter. We have what looks like black mold (mould) inside the top of our hives. Is this a real concern? If so what should we do about it. This is the first time we have had this occur. What I have read so far indicates the bees will take care of it on their own and maybe we should vent the top.Appreciate any information or experience you can pass on.See More

There is an App for that....

Found a App for bee hive management, is called BEE APPY for iPhone/iPad and Android. Place for inspections, pictures ask question like the last time the queen was spotted, how many frames have capped brood, uncapped brood, large ..time of day, weather, temperament and more...I just found it today, seems user friendly. So if you are a app geek like me you should check it out, was less than 4.00. There is another one for 14.00 but it did not really explain or show you what you can do with it.See More

Can't seem to win the Beatle Battle

I cleaned out the NUC got rid of two frames the bees didn't seem to like and replaced with new ones. We still have a queen, it looks like there are more bees, and they filled one new frame with brood and honey. It looks like they started on the other frame (north side) but not much there. We just can seem to get a handle on the beetle problem. I think part of,the problem is the NUC. So we are wondering if we should/could go ahead and put them into a hive, we have the screened bottom board that…See More
